Artist's Statement
I have been a woodturner for the last three years (full-time for the
past year). Prior to that I was a research physicist. In December 1995, I
decided to start woodworking full-time. I am currently working on my own
style which is inspired by the classical forms of vases, urns, and bowls
from Ancient Greece, Italy and China. At this stage in my work I am
particularly inspired by the amphorae of ancient Greece and the ceramic
work form the middle-ages in China. I work almost exclusively with native
hardwoods and soft woods form Sonoma and Mendocino Counties, CA. My
specialties are manzanita root burls and redwood burls, all of which are
obtained from environmentally conscious sources.
