Artist's Statement

My background is architecture and industrial design. I started painting as a part of interior display work for retail stores while teaching at universities in 1930s. After I retired from teaching position, I have been involved in setting up a design studio. All the while I continuted painting.

I do not and cannot paint abstracts. I do not have any desire for creating such paintings. I paint with the following things on mind.

I, as a painter and as a human being, want to express honestly.

I want to create a painting which appeals to people in any ages.

I create each painting with all my heart. I paint to live a full life and make audience feel better.

Currently I am involved in creating a series of Japanese landscape paintings. I believe there are still beautiful natures left in modern Japan.

I want to express both lights and shadows in my paintings to reflect one' life. My 85 years were filled with lights as well as shadows.
